Alliance for Children - Childhood Shouldn't Hurt

Kids Crew

The Kids Crew is trained Alliance For Children volunteers who are assisting with abused/neglected children at Cook Children’s Medical Center.  At times when a child is severely injured or neglected and requires hospitalization, the parents are often denied access to the child.  This results in the child often being alone, which is where the Kids Crew comes in.  Cook’s staff is amazing and does everything they can to be with the child.  However, they have other patients and responsibilities.  These volunteers with the Kids Crew are able to go sit with these kiddos!  Volunteers are able to hold them (if age appropriate), feed them, sing to them, take them to the play rooms, give them a ride in a wagon, etc.  Volunteers are able to give these children some love and attention they so desperately need.

Volunteers are required to submit a Volunteer Application.  Applications should be sent to Marilyn Roberts, Community Liaison at the Arlington center.  Her email is mroberts@allianceforchildren.org or fax to (817) 795-9997.

AFC will complete a criminal and CPS background checks on interested volunteers.  Volunteers will them be asked to attend a volunteer training that will include training on the process over at the hospital, what to expect, a tour of AFC and a tour of Cook Children’s Medical Center.

Trained volunteers are then notified, by email or phone, when we have a need for a KidsCrew volunteer at the hospital.  At times, we have children in the hospital for a few days or even a few weeks.  Volunteers sign up based on their availability.  We do ask volunteers to commit to at least a two hour shift when signing up.  It is common for a volunteer to bond with a particular kiddo and sign-up to go back with the same child!!
